STEM Authors Isabel Thomas and Gabrielle Balkan Gabrielle Balkan is a writer and editor living in Brooklyn, New York. Her books include the acclaimed atlas, The 50 States, a NCSS notable book, and its follow-up, 50 Cities. Gabrielle is a former book buyer, commissioning editor, and director of communications. Her work has been published by Harper Collins, Scholastic, and the Whitney Museum of Art.
 
Isabel Thomas, a science writer and children's authoris a winner of the AAAS/Subaru Children's Book Prize and has been shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize, the ASE Science Book of the Year, and the Blue Peter Book Awards.

Legendary photographer and music video director Mick Rock, in conversation with TASCHEN Executive Director Creed Poulson, and taking audience Q&A! Mick will discuss some of his favorite moments with iconic subjects such as David Bowie, Blondie, Queen, The Ramones, Janelle Monáe, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, and more. Mick will especially focus on his most recently published collection of irreplaceable photographs in Mick Rock: The Rise of David Bowie, 1972-1973.

MICK ROCK was born in London in 1948 and is known as “The Man who shot the seventies.” As well as David Bowie, he has photographed Lou Reed, Queen, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music and Blondie. He also produced and directed music videos for the classic Bowie songs: “John, I’m Only Dancing”, “The Jean Genie”, “Space Oddity” and “Life On Mars?”. Rock has had major exhibitions in London, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Among several books compiling his work, his most recent is Mick Rock: The Rise of David Bowie, 1972-1973
CREED POULSON is the Executive Director at TASCHEN, the global Publishing house and official publisher of Mick Rock: David Bowie. He has also served as Marketing Director and Public Relations Manager for the company.

Grant Faulkner is the Executive Director of National Novel Writing Month and the co-founder of 100 Word Story. He's published two books on writing,Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo, and Brave the Page, a teen writing guide. His essays on creativity have been published in The New York Times, Poets & Writers, LitHub, Writer's Digest, and The Writer. He also co-hosts Write-minded, a weekly podcast on writing and publishing.

Author/ Writing Instructor@National Novel Writing Month + UC Berkeley
Aya de León teaches creative writing at UC Berkeley. Kensington Books publishes her award-winning Justice Hustlers feminist heist series, includingSide Chick Nation, the first novel published about Hurricane Maria. In December Kensington will publish her first standalone novel,A Spy in the Struggle, and this year, Aya also published her first children's chapter bookEquality Girls and the Purple Reflecto-Ray. Aya's work has appeared in Ebony, Bitch Magazine, VICE, The Root, Catapult, Electric Lit, and Ploughshares. Aya is at work on a black/Latina spy girl series for teens called Going Dark. She would never have managed to publish six books in five years without the help of the NaNoWriMo process.
